The complete guide
Muslin squares vs. a muslin blanket: which one do you need?
Both muslin products on this site are genuinely useful, but for different moments — here's how to choose.
The blanket vs. the squares
Our six-layer muslin blanket is 110 × 110 cm and six layers thick — built to be a real blanket: pram cover, floor mat, changing layer, after-bath wrap. These squares are 70 × 70 cm and a single layer — lighter, thinner, and small enough to live folded in a changing bag without you noticing the weight.
When a single square earns its keep
A single layer of muslin is the traditional weight for swaddling — enough stretch and breathability to wrap snugly without overheating. The same square doubles as a burp cloth over the shoulder, a quick shade clipped to a pram, or a light cover while feeding. It dries fast and packs flat, which the thicker blanket can't do.
Why a set of three
One gets used, one gets washed, one stays in the bag. Muslin earns its keep through repetition — the same square that swaddled this morning is a burp cloth by lunch — so having three in rotation means you're never caught without a clean one.
A safe-swaddling note
If you're using a square to swaddle, keep it snug around the arms and loose at the hips, and stop swaddling once your baby shows signs of rolling — standard, widely-published safe-swaddling guidance, not something specific to this product.
Most parents end up with both
The blanket for the pram and the floor at home; a square or two in every bag you carry. They're designed to complement each other, not compete.
